From source documents to reviewable training analysis

A useful training draft lets an expert inspect how a task was derived, correct it and decide what can move forward. A reference is the beginning of that review, not its conclusion.

Synthetic example. The documents, tasks and review decisions below are invented for this guide. They are not military doctrine, operational instructions, customer results or a product screenshot.

Start with a defined source set

This example concerns a fictional document-library assistant receiving a training publication. The learning task is administrative: identify the publication, check its revision and route an unresolved discrepancy. No equipment operation is described.

Agree the document set and the role before drafting. Retain the publication identifier, version and passage reference so the reviewer can inspect the same material.

Invented source register for this example
SourceVersionPassage
LIB-01 · Library intake guideExample revision A§1.1: Record the publication identifier and revision shown on the received document.
LIB-01 · Library intake guideExample revision A§1.2: Compare that revision with the authorized document register. If they differ, record the discrepancy and ask the document owner to resolve it.
LIB-02 · Handoff noteExample revision A§2.1: Send the intake record and unresolved discrepancies to the document owner. Do not mark a disputed revision as current.

Make the draft inspectable

These draft tasks separate the actions described in the sources. The references identify the evidence a reviewer should inspect. They do not show that the source set is complete or that the wording is ready for instruction.

Synthetic draft analysis before review
TaskDraft actionSource
T-01Record the publication identifier.LIB-01 rev A · §1.1
T-02Record the revision shown on the publication.LIB-01 rev A · §1.1
T-03Compare the received revision with the authorized register.LIB-01 rev A · §1.2
T-04Update the authorized register if the revisions differ.LIB-01 rev A · §1.2
T-05Send the intake record and open discrepancies to the document owner.LIB-02 rev A · §2.1

Correct the inference, not just the reference

T-04 has a reference, but its proposed action is wrong. The passage requires the assistant to record a discrepancy and seek a decision; it does not authorize changing the register.

In this simulated review, the expert replaces T-04 with: “Record the discrepancy and request resolution from the document owner.” The correction preserves the reference to LIB-01 §1.2 and the distinction between recording a problem and authorizing a change.

Review decision: corrected draft, awaiting the training authority’s acceptance. This illustrative decision is not a real approval or a statement about a customer’s workflow.

Check the objective and its missing information

An illustrative draft objective is: “Given a received publication and the authorized register, complete an intake record containing the publication identifier, revision, comparison result and any unresolved discrepancy, using LIB-01 and LIB-02.”

The sources do not define a completion time, a pass threshold or an assessment method. Mark those fields for an expert decision instead of inventing them. The reviewer also needs to confirm the learner role, relevant conditions and required standard.

  • Inspect the passage behind each action, not only the presence of a citation.
  • Check for omitted actions, incorrect role authority and unsupported assumptions.
  • Resolve contradictory versions or missing requirements with the source owner.
  • Keep the draft, correction, rationale and review decision distinguishable.

Agree what is ready to hand over

A proposed handoff record can identify the source versions, task IDs, draft objectives, reviewer decisions and outstanding questions. Agree its format and acceptance criteria with the receiving team before work begins.

A school may use the analysis to prepare control-document drafts. A prime may pass it to its designers. A simulation team may use it as a training basis for production. An OEM may use draft tasks to discuss the scope of a training work package. These are different receiving decisions, not interchangeable approvals.

What source traceability establishes

Traceability gives a reviewer a route back to the material used to draft an item. It does not establish that every relevant source was provided, that the interpretation is correct, that an objective meets a specific framework or that the finished training is approved.
